The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has teamed up with the educational charity Racing to School to develop a new learning tool designed to encourage safe and accountable wagering.

“Racing 2 Learn” will be a free online program, instructing users about the BHA’s regulations on authorized gambling, as well as providing information about problematic gambling and its risks.

The program will also investigate the relationship between young individuals and gambling, exploring its connection to gaming. It will provide a list of resources for those struggling with problematic gambling and organizations that offer assistance.

BHA Executive Director Will Lambe declared: “Responsible gambling is a vital issue for our sport and industry. Education is a potent tool to ensure those who place bets on British horseracing do so securely.”

“We are fortunate to have ‘Racing 2 Learn’ as a resource, offering comprehensive online learning opportunities on various topics. I encourage everyone interested to delve deeper into it.”

For the past twelve months, Racing to School has collaborated with the Young Gamers and Gambling Education Trust (YGAM) to conduct two experimental workshops designed to educate young individuals about the connection between gaming and gambling. The workshops aimed to increase their understanding of the associated dangers and available support networks.

The head of Racing to School, John Black, stated that the new online module will expand upon this initiative, aiming to reach a broader audience within the racing industry.

“Why can’t racing take a leading role in educating young people to make informed gambling decisions, as part of the sport’s ongoing dedication to responsible gambling, integrated with the efforts to welcome the next generation of racing enthusiasts?” Black inquired.

“We will never avoid acknowledging the potential negative consequences, while emphasizing the robust support and guidance networks readily available.

“This module represents a crucial step in our work in this field, and we intend to expand our educational program to highlight the inherent positive relationship between gambling and racing.”

The launch coincides with Safer Gambling Week 2020, which is being held from November 19th to 25th in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
